[MLE] India's primary school education info goes online

Dear MLE friends,
Most MLE efforts take place in primary schools. The government of India has now put the “school reports charts” of most(?)  primary schools in India on line. Check out the schools in your project.

New Delhi: The National University of Educational Planning and Administration (Nuepa) has created an online database on elementary education in India to provide comprehensive information of various primary and upper primary schools across the country.

The project, under the District Information System for Education (Dise), has been successfully developed by the Nuepa. It consists of school report cards of more than 1.25 million primary and upper primary schools.

The database provides users with comprehensive information in a standard format on all the vital parameters, be it student, teacher or school related variables, yet concise, accurate information about each school and allows meaningful comparisons among schools.

In addition to quantitative information, the report cards also provide qualitative information and a descriptive report about individual schools which can be accessed online.

Dise has completely eliminated the time-lag in availability of educational statistics which has come down drastically from seven to eight years to less than a year at the national and only a few months at the district and state levels.

"Nuepa has developed the website which is unique in its nature. The website is developed for SSA, a government of India programme," Arun Mehta of Neupa said.

  1. Nice Article, So when you visit The Nursery schools in pune, look to see if teachers smile and are generally encouraging of children. Look to see how the teachers interact with the other children in the classroom and if there seem to be strong connections between them. Also talk to parents at the school about their experience.
